09/27/2002 | Hamilton, Diana | Note md5s are totally different from the alternate extraction, not-retracked version that has been incorrectly attributed to Greg.
09/30/2002 | Diana Hamilton | The "skip" in Wharf Rat turns out to be a closely-edited reel change.

I found this particular lineage to have Digital Noise Reduction applied. The artifacts can be clearly heard between tracks by increasing the high end. The fact that it has DNR applied does not bother me as much as the fact that it is not disclosed anywhere in the text file. jay |

11/22/2002 | Deadhead | This version does not have any noise reduction. This other version which circulates with the same text file does have nr applied and sounds awful with high end phasing artifacts. The only way to tell these different seeds apart is by comparing md5s. Compared to the other version this seed is the better sounding of the two.

Yes,this source DOES have Digital Noise Reduction applied. It may not be severe, but the artifacts left as a result can be heard if you know what to listen for. In addition, noise reduction can be seen in a frequency analyzer. When one can hear DNR artifacts, that means music was removed, not just tape hiss. jay |

I think I understand your explination about the md5s. I will see if I can find the other shnset and test them. So far, I have been sent two different sources for this show and both have DNR applied. Hopefully, the one you refer to will be clean. Thanks, jay |

I found the actual G. Hamilton shnset on TOL and tested them and I am Happy to report that this version DOES NOT HAVE DNR applied. This is made very confusing by the duplicate text files. May I suggest that someone ask the seeder of the alternate shnset to submit a new (different) text file that reflects the fact that Digital Noise Reduction was applied. At least that would help differentiate the two at a glance. Thank you to all who helped clarify the confusion. jay |

11/25/2002 | Hamilton, Diana | Jay, I added some clarifying (I hope) comments re the NR to each entry. The best we'll ever do on the confusing txt file is to update the bad one here, which I've done. The horse is out of the barn at all the sites where that seed already may be. Given theat the anonymous original seeder was irresponsible enough as it is, I doubt we'll see any updates posted from him.

I have a low-gen, no SHN copy of this show: no more than 3 DAT gens and my disks are CD masters made on DAP1>HHb CDR800. I will gladly provide clean EAC>SHN seeds of this show if it would be helpful - it's a good show and should circulate without headaches. However the last thing I want to do is add more confusion. Is it worth doing? If so, and you can host the SHNs, email me. |

11/27/2002 | Diana Hamilton | Hey Tyler- "clean" sounds good, go for it! The only thing that would make it confusing is if you wanted to call yourself G.S. Hamilton. ;)
12/07/2003 | Steve Gilbert | Does anyone still have access to the DAT tape of this? (ie: the MSR>C>DAT copy). It would be wonderful to have this retransferred for 80 minute CDs...you could get the whole WRS through the end and not have to cut the Let It Grow > Dark Star transition. I'll do the transfer if anyone wants to send me the DAT :-) I think this is one of the most under-rated shows ever...not quite as good as the next night, but lord have mercy...so good!

hard to believe it hasn't been mentioned before, but... I Know You Rider / @ 2:54 Row Jimmy skips @ 8:42>8:43 |

The cut in China Cat Sunflower, as mentioned above, is brutal. It happens right at the 'on a northbound traaa (cut)'. Ouch. |
|
04/29/2006 | Ryan | Oops, make that ^^ 'I Know You Rider'.
02/18/2009 | charlie miller | There's a master reel flip in Let It Grow.
02/18/2009 | charlie miller | There is a very short cut at the end of dark star. |
