10/30/2002 | just what I wanted: a remaster of a remaster. I can't even begin to imagine how much processing this baby has been subjected to!
10/30/2002 | scott z | if you read jay's text file, all he did was retrack the show, which it needed.
10/30/2002 | Serfain's seed had SBEs- were these corrected in this seed?
10/30/2002 | that's not what this text file says. I'm not the one who needs to read it again!
10/30/2002 | Diesel | Maybe everyone should listen to the seed first before making any comments on it. I only see two people that have it.
11/15/2002 | Doug | Maybe we all need to reread it! I've read it over and over and I can't tell what was changed except the tracking on PITB; note that the comment on retracking refers only to this track, not the whole thing. Was that really all Jay A. did?

This is a remaster (by Jay Ashley) of Jay Serafins (Monitor Mixer SBD > 4 TRACK RTR @ 7.5 IPS (Dolby B) > PCM > D > SSSB (Dolby B decoded) Seed . Digitally remastered using a custom built, Dual-DAW, nicknamed Bertha, by jashley@deadacated.com on 10/19/2002. The 'no edits were done' would be in reference to any fades/cuts. Hope that clears things up a bit. Willy |

11/26/2002 | in other words, a code-named bertha remaster of a code-named harpoon remaster.
02/09/2003 | ...So if Serrafin's has SBEs, and if the Bertha re-remaster has SBEs, does that mean the show will not be as the Grateful Dead intended it to Be....???

I don't know why anyone is complaining about remasters. If you don't want the remaster don't take it. We should be happy that Jay A is releasing this stuff remastered. He does a great job on them. Just my opinion. And thank you Jay if you are reading this, I love your remasters. |

Before comments are made about a project I suggest you take the time to give Jay's remaster a good listen. Once you do that I'm sure you will agree with those of us who have taken the time, that Jay's Bertha remasters are far and away the best sounding version out there. Steve |

02/18/2003 | unclebobo | if you listen to Jay Ashley's remaster of 10/1/77 I don't think your opinion would not be so unequivocal. Not his best work.
02/18/2003 | Doug Nawrocki | Is it easier to criticize without printing your name? Just curious. My experience is that Jay's remasters are a great attempt at balancing out the music through the highs, mids and lows. Most of the other remasters, by other folks, I have come across have usually been an improvement over the source. Just keep away from the NR.
05/25/2004 | mudshark82 | love this bertha remaster. somebody needs to make a fileset that includes the circulating source of the acoustic set. all 4 sets and the encore can fit on 3 80min cdrs. simply end d1 at biodtl, add the rest of set 2 to disc 2 as well as whats already on there. then burn disc 3 exactly as it should. i have it for trade. |
