Here is a copy of a comment made by Rob Eaton concerning the assignment of these tunes to 7/1/66 "re 7/1/66 The piece in question came from Latvala. It was on several dats he made from those reels. His best assumption was that it was from 7/1/66. Many of these old 66 reels were on "pallets" with hubs only rather then reels which made the identification process more difficult. 7/1/66 came into play because of several factors. Dick felt because of the nature of the repeated songs it would be unlickly that they repeated certain songs on the same night. Here's what we came up with: 7/1/66: Big Boss Man, Cold Rain & Snow, Baby Blue, Cream Puff War, Kingbee, Stealin',Dancin In The Streets/ 7/3/66: Dancin In The Streets, I Know You Rider/, /He Was A Friend Of Mine, Lied N Cheated, Viola Lee Blues, Big Boss Man, Sittin On Top Of The World,Unknown Title, Minglewood Blues, Cold Rain & Snow, Unknown Title, Beat It On Down The Line, Cream Puff War, It?s A Good Thing 7/16/66: /He Was A Friend Of Mine, Cream Puff War, Viola Lee Blues, Don?t Ease Me In,Pain In My Heart, Minglewood Blues, Sittin On Top Of The World, You Don't Have To Ask, Cold Rain & Snow, Good Morning Little Schoolgirl,Baby Blue, Dancin In The Streets 7/17/66: I Know You Rider, Big Boss Man, Standing On The Corner, Beat It Down The Line,In The Pines, Cardboard Cowboy, Nobody's Fault But Mine, Lied N Cheated,He Was A Friend Of Mine At any rate there is certainly room for debate here just thought I'd through my two cents in. FWIW, the material on this source is the same as the "complete 7/17/66" source. This copy is missing the fragmentary Big Boss Man, as well as some of the tuning/banter before Dancin' In the Streets. Also, Dancin' cuts off a few seconds earlier. Otherwise, the music is identical. The "complete 7/16/66" and "complete 7/17/66" lists apparently come from Latvala's best guess at the dates of the same material. Also, it has been suggested that the "7/1/66" date derives from an erroneous transcription of "7/1?/66", i.e. a notation that the show was sometime in the July teens of 1966, i.e. probably during the 7/15-17/66 Fillmore run. ----Scott |
