The event hosted at the Raspberry farm was called the "Sky River Rock Festival and Lighter Than Air Fair". It was the first outdoor, multiday hippie rock festival on an undeveloped site, preceding Woodstock by a year. Others who appeared include Santana, Big Mama Thornton, Jesse Colin Young, It's a Beautiful Day, Richard Pryor, and the San Francisco Mime Troupe. The highlight of the festival, according to many, was the last-day jam by the Grateful Dead, Big Mama Thornton, Cotton and Billy Roberts, who wrote the Jimi Hendrix hit "Hey, Joe." It doesn't look like that's preserved here. |
