Source Summary
[New Version] Set 2 MSR > C> DAT > PCM > DAT > CD (see notes in info file regarding correctness of genealogy) - Subsequent CD extraction (EAC), editing (Cool Edit Pro 2), and SHN encoding (mkwACT) by Sean Cribbs 12/2003

DISC ONE [43:25]
set two-a:
01 [13:37] Morning Dew >
02 [14:55] Playing In The Band >
03 [09:35] Uncle John's Band > *
04 [05:17] Playing In The Band

* An alternate version of Uncle John's Band is provided as a work around for the splice on the master reel at about 5:25 into the song.  This alternate track (d1t03alt) is missing approximately 10 seconds but masks the splice very nicely.

DISC TWO [48:55]
set two-end:
01 [08:06] Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo >
02 [10:27] He's Gone > *
03 [06:51] Truckin' >
04 [03:32] Jam >
05 [09:54] Wharf Rat **
06 [10:02] Sugar Magnolia ***

* About 2 seconds were removed near the start of He's Gone to mask a splice from the 1st-gen cassette.
** Splice in Wharf Rat at 4:49.  An alternate track (d2t05alt) patches the splice in the master reel with about 19 seconds of material from 11/14/73.
*** Levels drop at end of Sugar Magnolia at about 9:05.  I boosted the levels 4db from 9:05 to the end.

Genealogy: MSR>C>DAT>PCM>DAT>CD
Subsequent CD extraction (EAC), editing (Cool Edit Pro 2), and SHN encoding (mkwACT) by Sean Cribbs 12/2003

You may notice that the genealogy of this file set is slightly different from previous versions.  Andy Lemieux assured me that this (MSR>C>DAT>PCM>DAT>CD) is the correct genealogy for this show.  Most copies of this show exhibit intermittent clicking throughout, which, according to Andy, resulted from a bad PCM>DAT transfer.  Like the version of this show "De-Popped" by Mike Parrillo, the source discs for this file set came from Howlin' Bob.  Mike used SoundForge to fix the clicks individually, and then used De-Popper to fix any remaining clicks he could not easily identify.  Bob felt that Mike's globally "De-Popped" version sounded over-processed, so I attempted to fix each click individually using Cool Edit Pro 2.0.  While I did not bother to tally the number of edits made, I would venture to guess that around 200 edits were made.  There may be a few instances where my attempts failed, but overall I think the final product sounds pretty good.  In addition to the clicking issue, I suspected a speed/pitch problem, but Joe B. Jones subsequently verified the speed/pitch to be right on.  Jerry does a great deal of tuning up during Truckin' (and possibly during Wharf Rat as well), so maybe things were a bit off on this night, at least with regard to correct pitch. ;^)
