This comment is in response to comments elsewhere about the inferior quality of this "audience" recording. First off, let me say that I'm not a big fan of most AUD recording, usually favoring SBDs even if the actual shows are mediocre performances. There are exceptions, usually "important" from a historical point of view--Bruce's famous "I've seen the future of rock 'n' roll" show at the Bottom Line, a few early Neil Young shows, and of course lots of GD shows that took you there... I really enjoy such SBDs of the NRPS as 5/26/72 and the "Rob Bleetstein's 40th Birthday" NRPS reunion which are pristine sound-wsie and great performances. Having said all that, this is a completely listenable and very enjoyable show! You can hear all the instruments and voices distinctly and separately, and you don't get a sore ear/headache like you do from many AUDs. There isn't much crowd noise to speak of, so you don't have to put up with hoots & hollers and or/random conversations by nearby crowd members. The performance speaks for itself. If you gotten this far, you know the make-up of the original band, the lack of good recordings from the early days, and the rarity of documented performances of some of these songs. Thanks Noah for once again sharing this great music with us!!! Highly recommended for all NRPS-heads, maybe not the first choice for the uninitiated. |
