"Source Information for The Usher's Tapes Tree

"the person who is responsible for the bulk of the capitol theatre audience recordings is a fellow by the name of ken lee (not sure of his last name spelling) who was employed by howard stein (local ny area promoter of the time) my source is his brother in law, mark c (a long time dead head & quite a nice & unassuming person) i owe mark a huge debt of gratitude.

ken's port chester masters were recorded on a sony cassette deck (don't have the 'model # or mic info) his positioning was generally center lodge with mic's mounted on the rail. 3/21/70 had the mic's spaced at over 15 feet, and the recording bears out that information.

10/22/2003 Matt Vernon I modified this text file to more accurately represent the information about the source tapes. I also believe that a new digitization off the master tapes is in process ~ 10/22/2003.
10/23/2003 The AlphaDog Just grabbed this from STG. Here is the updated source info:

Cassette Master> Soundforge> cd> EAC> SHN

-Recorded by Ken & Judy Lee on a Sony 124 cassette deck with Sony dynamic mics on a Norelco 120 normal bias tape. Microphones were set up in the balcony with a 20 foot spread.
-Original tape was baked in "Susie Q", shell replaced and transferred on a Tascam 122mk3 via a Lucid ADA1000 Analog to Digital Converter directly to disc on a Tascam CDRW700 by John Jay Hance.
-Cleanup performed by Peter G with Soundforge.

and wow oh wow does this sound AWESOME!!!
10/23/2003 Matt Vernon Regarding "AlphaDog's" comment -> the information provided in his comment is taken from the NEW, just now circulating (~10/22/2003) fresh transcription from the master cassettes and NOT to this shn set. It is my understanding that the second set (aka late show) is in the works as well.

To reduce confusion, when you post a comment you should try to explicitly say that you have confirmed through md5 checks etc that the wavs you have are derived w/o chnages from the shn set where the comments are posted. Since multiple versions can exist that fix, patch, pitch correct etc.. the same source it is helpful to know if you are making some general comment OR if your comment is specific to a shn set.
10/23/2003 Jack Warner Actually, unless I'm mistaken, which is possible, the lineage for this particular set should be MAC>C>D>CD...
10/23/2003 jb Jack's comment underscores the confusion that Matt is referring to. This shn does, in fact, have 2 gens (MAC > C > CD). The new transfer Alpha refers to which is currently up on STG.org has only one (MAC > CD)
10/23/2003 The AlphaDog Sorry to add to the confusion...I was just so psyched to hear this that I got carried away...please forgive.

This is the newly restored version Matt was alluding to in his post from 10/22/03.

So, should there be a new entry in the DB??
