I created this live JGB compilation to capture my favorite performances over the years 1975-1995 in a single box set. It does not purport to be a definitive "Best of JGB" as I'm sure everyone has an opinion of what they believe is the best version of a particular song.
All the track selections are definitely reflective of my own personal tastes, with my favorite shows heavily represented. Nevertheless, I hope folks will find a good many of their own personal favorites here as well. I tried to adequately showcase as much of the band's wide repertoire as possible and include as many rarities and guest performances as I could. Needless to say some of my least favorite songs are not here. So, my apologies to you, if I left out a song that you love.
All the tracks here (88 tracks spread over 10 discs) are from Etree.org listed sources, and cover a wide range of audience, soundboard and matrix sources with varying sound levels. As such, the transitions between songs are not always perfectly smooth and you may find yourself adjusting volume levels. There's also some tuning/dead air in places, as I did nothing more, in terms of editing, than select and arrange the tracks. Where the sound quality is sometimes least desirable is on some of the tracks where no options existed, such as "Not Fade Away" and "Man Smart, Women Smarter," which were only played once.
The ten discs generally move chronologically from the periods 1975 to 1995 but I have taken the liberty of mixing things up a bit to make it more interesting. The only song repeated here is "Knockin' on Heaven's Door," mainly because it was tied to my favorite "Mystery Train." I happen to love both these versions and think you'll find that both the '78 and '82 treatments are excellent (the '82 being a reggae-fied version). Anyway, I hope you enjoy listening to this as much as I enjoyed putting it together.
